Welcome to Radiance Resources
What is Revit Architecture?
Revit technology, Autodesk’s platform for Building Information Modeling (BIM), is at once a gigantic database and a design tool. Traditionally, a CAD document was nothing more than a sophisticated collection of lines that abstractly represented visual design and engineering concepts. Designers working in Revit actually construct their visions by inserting objects (i.e. steel I-beams, luminaires, windows, etc.) populated with critical parametric data that is accessible in either 3D model views or drawing sheets, schedules, sections, plans, and more. A Revit document is a virtual building; the data it contains will remain useful to all the people that come in contact with the design, engineering, analysis, construction, and maintenance of the building. The BIM file becomes a legacy document that remains a critical tool for decades to come. From conceptual studies through the most detailed construction drawings and schedules, Revit users capitalize on the same underlying database, enabling them to deliver outstanding coordination; they experience an unprecedented level of communication and collaboration among the team.
Why Radiance Resources?
Radiance Resources was established to create Revit luminaire families for manufacturers. We get lighting manufacturers to market quickly by helping them bridge the Revit divide. The people at Radiance Resources have the insight and qualifications to integrate the compendium of parametric luminaire data (2D/3D images, IES files, lamping, mounting/joining options, etc.) into a package that is informative, intuitive, and useful, allowing Architects, Engineers, Interior Designers, Landscape Architects and Lighting Consultants to easily specify a manufacturer’s luminaires in their Revit developed work.
The principals of Radiance Resources represent a partnership between a lighting designer and lighting sales representative, both widely respected in their fields. They share a collective insight into design, electrical engineering, and sales & marketing within the architectural lighting industry. Key to our success is an appreciation for the challenges that manufacturers face in providing the appropriate tools for the design/specification community, particularly when faced with the monumental transition from traditional electronic drafting to a Building Information Modeling (BIM) paradigm.
What does this mean for a Lighting Manufacturer? Providing Revit lighting fixture families for the specification community means you have taken the lead in supporting this new generation design process. First to market with Revit fixture families means first to gain a loyal specifier following. If you have Revit families properly developed in the Revit Family Editor, and make these families available to the specification community, these families become usable by those design teams that are drawing in Revit. Your fixture, the way that it looks and the way it is specified, becomes integral to the designer’s drawing.
The Radiance Resources Crystal Ball
Revit & BIM are garnering the attention of the architectural design world—from media coverage to seminars and a plethora of user groups. The design industry has embraced Revit; it will soon dominate the worldwide CAD market. Within the coming few years we anticipate that all major architectural design firms will convert to the Revit platform for new projects. The excitement is growing exponentially, the Revit wave is coming like an industry-wide tsunami. Manufacturers electing to wait and see will be left on the sideline of real-time specifications. The time is now and the road is illuminated by Radiance Resources. For the creation of complete and thoughtful Revit luminaire families, look no further than Radiance Resources.
